Regular Wood Floor Cleaning

The finish on your floor determines the proper cleaning procedure

Regular wood floor cleaning prevents scuffs and scratchesFloors are exposed to daily wear. Tracking in dirt from walking on them can scratch and dull the wood surfaces. Proper wood floor cleaning is essential to maintain the beauty and strength of your floors. Your wood floors can look amazing, no matter how much wear and usage they are exposed to with a bit of effort.

Cleaning wood floors with WOCA soaps regularly will make them more hardwearing and dirt resistant.  WOCA soaps leave a microscopically, invisible soap layer on the wood surface.   This means that the gritty dirt tracked onto floors will adhere to the soap instead of the actual wood fibers, making wood floor cleaning much easier and faster in the long run.

Cleaning wood floors is easy

WOCA Woodcare CleaningDaily cleaning of all kinds of wood floors can be done with a mop, broom or vacuum cleaner. If you use a vacuum cleaner, be careful not to accidentally scratch the floor with the vacuum head. Make sure you are always using the soft bristle setting.

Your floor finish determines how regular and more intensive cleaning is carried out and which product you should use. Find the right method for your floors in our usage guide below.

Regular cleaning of oiled wood floors

An oil finish penetrates and saturates the wood, creating a very strong finish that protects the wood from within. Oiled floors, however can suffer from high wear, which makes them more disposed to moisture and damage. Therefore, it is very important to clean oiled wood floors with a quality wood soap specially formulated to add nourishment to the floor in order to extend its life.

We recommend WOCA Natural Soap, a soap ideal for wood floor cleaning and maintenance of all known oil systems. It is a quality wood soap containing soy and coconut fats, which due to their nourishing properties quickly close the pores of the wood and protect against dirt and penetration of liquids.

In order to maintain the strongest oil finish as possible, we recommend cleaning the oiled wood floor with Natural Soap regularly and mopping with WOCA Oil Refresher approx. every fourth time or as needed. Oil Refresher cleans the surface and contains a bit of oil, which penetrates into the wood and adds additional strength to the existing oil finish.

Recommendations for regular wood floor cleaning:

  • Always work with two buckets: one bucket containing the solution of soapy water and a second bucket with clean water to rinse the mop (change the water as needed). The two-bucket wash method prevents the floor from getting a greyish gleam caused by dirty water.
  • An excessive dosage of soap may leave visible footprints on your freshly washed floor. Simply clean the floor with pure, lukewarm water to remove the excess soap.
  • Always clean the floor with a minimum quantity of water, in order to leave as little moisture on the surface as possible.
  • Use a quality swep mop, a cotton yarn, or lint-free cotton cloths to clean the floor. Microfiber mops are mildly abrasive and will gradually wear down an oil finish.
