WOCA Lyes are optional interior wood pre treatment products for finishing wood that age, color and patina wood. Wood only treated with lye is still unfinished wood. The final look for wood with a lye applied depends on the WOCA Oil chosen as the topcoat finish. Interior wood pretreatment is not mandatory before using a WOCA Oil.
WOCA Wood Lye is neither a bleach nor a paint. It’s a primer that prevents the wood from yellowing over time and minimizes red and pink tones.
Why should I use a lye pretreatment?
Lye is an optional pretreatment to alter the base color of the wood, accelerate patina, and create custom looks. WOCA has three types of Lyes for different wood types and accomplish different effects.
Do I need to finish the floor after using a lye pretreatment?
Wood Lye is not a finish, it’s a pretreatment. Lye treated wood is still unfinished wood, so yes, you will need to add an oil finish to protect the flooring after applying lye. Most customers topcoat/finish with either Diamond Oil Active or Master Color Oil in White or Extra White for that signature Scandinavian look.

Woca Woodcare Shipping and Delivery
Our warehouse ships Monday-Thursday. Orders received on Thursday and Friday will be processed and shipped by the following Monday. Woca shipping uses Standard Shipping Rates for all U.S. Deliveries. Delivery is usually within 5 to 7 business days once parcel has shipped. If you need to receive the items sooner, please select an expedited shipping type at checkout.
Due to the ongoing shipping delays and issues with USPS and UPS, WOCA Woodcare will not reimburse shipping charges for delayed, lost or damaged shipments. Shipping charges are determined by USPS and UPS.
When ordering Antique Oak Lye, Driftwood Lye, or Softwood Lye, there is an additional handling fee, and they must be shipped via FedEx Ground Hazmat. This is due to the hazardous material status of these products.
