Wood Lye Instructions

Wood Lye Instructions

The unfinished woodwork must be sanded, clean and dry before application of lye. On vertically mounted woodwork, apply from top to bottom.

  1. Shake the Wood Lye container well and pour the lye into a plastic bucket and stir regularly during application to get a uniform finish.
  2. Apply the lye, undiluted, with the WOCA Applicator, going with the grain. Coverage is approximately 250 square feet per 2.5 liter container.

Technique A After a drying time of 8 hours at 68˚F (the wood must be completely dry), de-nib standing fibers with a fine sanding polishing pad (green or maroon) before the final basic treatment. Subsequently, vacuum the floor.  Now you can treat the floor with Diamond Oil Active or Master Color Oil.

Technique B After a drying time of 8 hours at 68˚F (the wood must be completely dry), you can start oiling the floor with Diamond Oil Active or Master Color Oil. This technique uses as much pigment as possible from the Lye. The polishing of the oil with a red pad will denib the lye and drive the lye pigment into the grain.
