Driftwood Lye Testers

If you are testing a Lye, you do not need to water pop the wood surface. Lye is water based and will automatically water pop the wood when applied.  Ensure you wear appropriate acid-resistant protective clothing, gloves, and eye protection for safety.
The wood must be clean, dry and free from dirt and grease.

1.  Shake the bottle to disperse the color pigments. Pour Lye into a plastic paint tray.
2. Apply Lye with a brush, stain applicator or white pad in an even coat on the wood surface, following the wood grain.
3. Let the surface dry at least 2-4 hours, preferably overnight.
4. A. Polish off surface pigment to reveal the wood with red pad, then apply Oil.    OR B. Immediately apply the finishing oil to utilize the lye pigment for a greater pigmented effect in the wood grain.
5. Make sure the lye treated surface is dry before applying Master Color Oil or Diamond Oil Active.
